Instagram carousel ad size
Instagram carousel ads are 4:5 when every card is an image. The moment one card is a video, Meta supports 1:1 only — so a mixed carousel is a square carousel.
| File type | JPG or PNG for images; MP4, MOV or GIF for video |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 4:5 for image-only carousels; 1:1 only, where the carousel contains video |
| Recommended resolution | At least 1080 × 1080 pixels |
| Aspect ratio tolerance | 1% |
| Number of cards | 2 to 10 |
| Video duration | 1 second to 2 minutes |
| Maximum file size | 30 MB per image, 4 GB per video |
| Primary text | 125 characters |
| Maximum hashtags | 30 |
What the other guides get wrong
Spec sheets give one ratio for Instagram carousels, usually 1:1. Meta gives two, and which one applies depends on the cards: 4:5 for images throughout, 1:1 as soon as any card is a video. Build a 4:5 set, add one video card, and the whole unit changes shape.
