Engage-through attribution
- Also called Engaged-view attribution, Engaged-view, 1-day engagement
- Updated October 24, 2026
Engage-through attribution is the Meta attribution window that credits a conversion to your ad when someone engaged with it without clicking the link, then converted within 1 day. Engaging means any non-link click, or playing a video ad for 5 seconds. Meta used to call it engaged-view attribution, and reports it as "1-day engagement".
What is engaged-view attribution on Meta?
It's the same thing under its older name. Meta's setup page is now titled Set up engage-through in Meta Ads Manager, while the attribution page still links to it as "Set up engaged-view for video ad campaigns in Meta Ads Manager", and the page itself still mentions "1-day engaged-view attribution settings". The definition:
Engage-through attribution counts when someone interacts with your ad and converts within a 1 day window. These interactions include when someone engages with your ads (excluding link clicks) or plays your video ad for a minimum of 5 seconds (or 97% of the video length if its less than 5 seconds).
Meta pitches it for people "who engage with your ads but are less likely to click and convert immediately."
Where does engage-through fit in the attribution setting?
It's one of three windows in the standard attribution setting. Meta's About attribution models and attribution settings page:
| Window | Meta's definition |
|---|---|
| Click-through | "Counts events that occurred within 1-day or 7-day after a link click on your ad." |
| View-through | "Counts events that occurred within 1-day after an impression of your ad." |
| Engage-through | "Counts events that occurred within 1-day after a non-link click action on your ad." |
On the setup page you pick it at the ad set level, under Standard attribution selections, for the Engagement, Leads or Sales objectives with a Website or App conversion location. Engage-through itself only offers 1-day.
Does the Results column include engage-through conversions?
Not always. Meta's setup page:
The results column in Ads Manager reporting includes click-through conversions and view-through conversions when your campaign is using Click-through, View-through and Engage-through. The results column in Ads Manager reporting includes click-through conversions and engagement conversions when your campaign is using Click-through and Engagement only.
Meta's example: 5 click-through, 15 view-through and 3 engagement conversions show "20 as the total conversions in the Results column." The 3 engagement conversions aren't in it. To see them, Meta says to use Compare attribution settings and select "1-day Engagement".
Where is engage-through not available?
Meta lists three limits:
- "Engage-through is available for all placements except Facebook in-stream video ads that cannot be skipped." See placement.
- "1-day engagement won't be seen in reporting for campaigns not using video assets."
- "For Android app promotion campaigns, engage-through is only available for reporting."
What it means for your ads
- Read Results with the setting in mind. With view-through on, engaged conversions sit outside Results, so cost per result leaves them out. Compare ad sets that use the same windows.
- The first seconds of a video earn the credit. A 5-second play counts as engagement. That's shorter than a ThruPlay, which Meta's video metrics page counts at completion or 15 seconds (the ThruPlay entry also covers the 6-second goal).
- Use Compare attribution settings to see how many conversions came after an engagement before you decide a video ad isn't working.
Common mistakes
- Assuming engagement plus a play is required. The page's opening says "engages with your ads (excluding link clicks) or plays your video". A later section says "clicks on your ad (excluding link clicks) and plays your video". The attribution page lists the 5-second play as an engagement on its own.
- Expecting a 7-day option. Engage-through is 1-day only.

Meta notes the steps may differ on accounts that don't yet have the updated engage-through, and it revises these pages without notice, so check the source before acting on any of it.
Terrads can write up to three new openings for a video ad made in it with a voiceover, so the first seconds that earn an engagement get more than one try.
