Campaign score
- Updated October 24, 2026
Campaign score is a 0–100 score Meta Ads Manager shows while you draft a new campaign. It counts how many of Meta's setup recommendations you have applied and how many errors and warnings are left, before you publish. Each draft gets its own score. Meta says it does not predict performance and does not change your account's opportunity score.
How does Meta define campaign score?
Meta's About campaign score during campaign creation in Meta Ads Manager page:
On a 0-100 point scale, campaign score predicts how optimized your campaign is before publishing. Each campaign will have its own score that's based on how many Meta Ads Manager recommendations you apply while setting up your campaign prior to publishing, and those recommendations are ranked based on how they can help ensure your campaign is set up to perform.
The page adds that the score is "specific to a single campaign, and the purpose is to guide you toward an optimal campaign prior to publishing." It is labeled "in development and may evolve."
What makes a campaign score go up or down?
Your edits do. Meta: "Making adjustments to the campaign may make you eligible for certain recommendations or cause errors and warnings, which will cause your campaign score to decrease. Applying recommendations and resolving errors and warnings will cause your score to increase."
Recommendations are not worth the same number of points. Meta says the value "varies depending on things like your ad objective, campaign characteristics, budget allocation and more." And 100 has a narrow meaning: "A score of 100 indicates there are no recommendations to apply or errors and warnings to resolve while you're creating your campaign."
Does a high campaign score mean the campaign will perform?
No. Meta: "Campaign score (including a high score) itself does not reflect future performance." Applied recommendations "can help ensure your campaign is set up to perform but performance isn't guaranteed. Actual performance depends on many factors such as market dynamics."
The "in development" label has its own Meta page. It says such measures are fine for "Directional guidance" but not for "Strategic planning or important business decisions."
How is campaign score different from opportunity score?
They use the same 0–100 scale and the same idea, at a different scope.
| Campaign score | Opportunity score | |
|---|---|---|
| When you see it | While drafting, before publishing | "in the Account Overview and Campaigns tabs of Meta Ads Manager, and when you create an ad" |
| What it covers | One draft campaign | "your campaigns, ad sets and ads" across the account |
| Effect on the other | "does not impact your overall account's opportunity score" | Not affected by a draft's campaign score |
| Performance claim | "does not reflect future performance" | "does not reflect your actual or future performance" |
Meta describes opportunity score as the one that "applies across your entire ad account and is meant to help keep your account on track."
What it means for your ads
- Treat it as a pre-flight checklist. The score drops when an edit triggers an error or warning, so a falling number while you build is a prompt to look at what you just changed.
- Fix errors first, then weigh recommendations. Meta's opportunity score page says errors and warnings flag issues "such as incorrect formatting, missing information or policy violations". Recommendations are Meta's advice, and some may not fit your budget or plan.
- Get the setup right before you publish. Changing targeting or creative after launch are significant edits that restart the learning phase. The draft stage is the cheap time to change things.
Common mistakes
- Reading 100 as a forecast. It means nothing is left to apply. It says nothing about cost per result.
- Expecting it to lift your account score. Meta describes the two as separate.

Campaign score is labeled in development, so Meta may change how it works without notice. Check the source before acting on any of it.
Terrads makes a batch of different ads before you build the campaign, so the creative is ready while the setup is still a draft.
